"The Feel-Good, Pick-Me-Up Musical" - Sunday Expess
Cal Hawes' Blog - Piccadilly Theatre
26th December 2009
Merry Christmas to you all from the Piccadilly Theatre! It’s Boxing Day and while the rest of the nation sleeps off an excess of turkey and mince pies, the Grease Cast and Crew are out there under the lights giving two performances. It was hard work for some getting here – Boxing Day transport is a nightmare – especially for those of us who live outside London, and those who have been visiting family for Christmas. Niamh, our Irish dancer, was in a bit of a flap when her plane, which was supposed to get into Heathrow at the fiendishly early time of 6am, actually didn’t take off from Dublin until gone 11am. But, like the professional she is, she made it here in time for curtain up, hurtling through Stage Door and into Make-up with only 30 mins to spare.
Sadly Father Christmas was too busy to visit the Piccadilly this year, but this afternoon he sent along an elf, in the form of Wardrobe Dresser, Mandie Wilde. Forty of us crammed into the Stalls Bar after the matinee to eat sausage rolls and crisps and receive our Secret Santa presents: a Cheerleader bathtowel for Robyn; some interestingly inappropriate underpants for Ian, the DSM... you could tell that a lot of thought had gone into the choosing of them! This evening’s show will be carried on the wave of a Christmas cake and chocolate sugar-high , and tomorrow – a blessed day off – will be needed to recuperate, and prepare ourselves for next week’s New Year ten show extravaganza...
I hope you had a Happy Christmas
